A Young Fangirl’s Review of A Young Doctor’s Notebook

The cast of Sky Art’s new comedy drama, A Young Doctor’s Notebook

I’ve just finished watching episode 1 of A Young Doctor’s Notebook and I honestly don’t know what to say… EXCEPT THAT DANIEL RADCLIFFE IS BRILLIANT IN IT!!! (Uh-oh, fangirl alert!)

But before that, a bit of a background: A Young Doctor’s Notebook is based on a collection of notes written in 1916-1918 by Russian writer and doctor, Mikhail Bulgakov, about his own experience as a country doctor. He was supposed to publish a book of this collection, but he unfortunately died before he could do so. The awesome thing is that Sky Arts 1 picked it up recently and turned it into a mini-series featuring my love Daniel Radcliffe and Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm.

Nandito… si David!

David Archie's Bench Billboard

David Archie's Bench Billboard

[Hurray for my failed attempt at a witty blog title!]

We were passing through the bridge going to Makati today when I saw this big-ass billboard of David Archuleta. My initial reaction was OH MY GOSH HE IS EVERYWHERE! (Not that I’m complaining, though, ’cause having him here in the Philippines is kind of cute. Hee.)

But anyway, seeing that billboard reminded me of his upcoming mini series entitled Nandito Ako (coming out February 20 on TV5). I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of excited about the whole thing. When the news first came out on Twitter, though, of course, I had my doubts. But seeing the trailer for it just made me a wee bit excited — mainly because I really want to see how David’s acting is going to be like (and how he’s going to reduce his two leading ladies to cheese puddles).

David's Tweet

When I got home, I saw that David posted this and a vlog thanking the cast and crew of Nandito Ako. Watching the video made me well up inside ’cause I could feel the sincerity in every word that he said. I now feel really bad that I never got to see him while he was here. And I had the opportunity to do so when he visited a mall near our place a few weeks ago! Boo. Maybe someday.

Good news is that there’s this mini series to look forward to. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, here it is. For all our non-Filipino readers, I apologize, but I just don’t have the strength to translate. Here’s the gist of the story, though, according to the show’s Wikipedia page:

Josh, a Filipino-American, was born and raised in the Philippines until he was 5 years old when he got separated from his mother, Cara, during a hotel fire. After the incident, he moved and lived in the U.S.A. then became an international singer. Years later, Josh returns to the Philippines to find out what really happened to his mother and also search for the little girl he encountered and befriended during the hotel fire.

And with that, you can now take this video into context:

With the girls — Girl # 1 is in love with him and Girl # 2 hates him. He ends up falling in love with Girl # 2 (and vice versa) but Girl # 2 declines because Girl # 1 is her friend? That sort of drama.

Sooooo… will you be watching on Monday? :>
